It all started Wednesday morning when we had an appointment with a specialist at 8:30AM. We got there and the doctor had problems finding the diastolic pressure in the umbilical cord (blood pressure going back from the baby). The specialist called Amy's doctor had told him that the baby needed to be delivered that day. So off to Lake Mary to see Amy's doctor. Amy's doctor told us that he agreed with the specialist's assessment and told us we would need to be at the hospital at 2:30PM to start inducing labor. I will spare you all the details but with a lot of Amy's effort and a little bit of inducing drugs we had a baby 9 hours later.

Everything was fine to start with but as with many small babies Evan had problems eating and would get a low oxygen saturation when stimulated too much. He did not have to have supplemental oxygen however which was good. The worst part was not being able to hold him all day Thursday. By Friday he was doing much better and we were able to hold and feed him. Amy was discharged from the hospital Friday evening so we spent the night at a hotel near the hospital so that we would be closer to Evan. Saturday we moved into a house at the hospital called the Circle of Friends (like Ronald McDonald house), it was within walking distance of the hospital and so it was easier to get back and forth for feedings. Things continued to improve on Saturday except for some jaundice, blood tests were done and it was not serious enough to begin phototherapy.

Sunday we got a big surprise, the doctor told us he could come home on two conditions. First we had to get a nurse to visit him and check his weight, eating habits, and jaundice. Second we had to see our pediatrician within 48hours. The nurse came by and said he was doing well but that we needed to increase his feedings in both volume and frequency. He needs to gain some weight. We made an appointment to see the doctor on Tuesday at 3:00PM

We will keep you up-to-date with his progress over the next couple of days or weeks, until he is completely up to snuff.
